1983 Yamaha IT490K "26A"

This 1983 Yamaha IT490K was shipped in from the USA by myself from its original owner and has undergone a full frame up restoration. 

When the final pictures of the bike were taken it was 99% finished all it needed to finish are the side stand spring and R/H foot peg fitting along with the rear brake pedal, rod and the brake light switch. The pedal just needs a little modification for the brake light switch. 


This IT has been a labour of love and a pain, its one of the bikes I had on my bedroom wall as a poster when I was a kid but now its finally finished im happy with it. I think its now as close to new as I can get it after collecting parts for 2 years or there abouts.



Its now finished and in the end the frame was sandblasted and refinished, the engine was rebuilt with new rod kit and all bearings,seals, 1st oversize on YZ490J topend with fresh Eric Gorr headmod, if your reading this you know who he is.  Also new nos reed cage and reeds, new clutch etc, new generic mikuni carb, new free flow uni air filter, comes with standard topend and spare reed cage with new unused Boyessen reeds fitted. Has DG front pipe with polished Answer silencer.

Wheels were rebuilt with H/D stainless spokes and new bearings, new IRC road legal tyres and new brakes on mint original rims.

All new cables, I modified the original USA spec wiring loom to ad high/low lights and front/rear brake lights, ignition switch and regulator fitted. TT600 speedo mount with Blue face XT225 mph speedo and TT600 ignition switch with ADR IT lights switches.

Front and rear suspension rebuilt top to bottom, rear re gassed etc and spring powder coated, polished fork legs and swinging arm. New chain runners and guides.

All new plastics except the headlamp cowl as I just cant find a new one but luckily the original one is still in vgc, genuine new Yamaha fenders front and rear, the rear is an IT200 type as the originals are just impossible to find so the 200 was the next best that the 490 tail light would fit. Now even these 200 fenders are nla. DC sidecovers fitted with genuine Yamaha locating dampers and mounts with no issues at all after some slight manipulation shall we say, the silencer side is fitted with thick heat proofing tape on the inside and new speed and sport inc decals on both, new Clarke tank with new tank cover,seat cover and bar pad, new Progrip fork boots new headlamp and taillamp lenses fitted, new period style fender bag.

Has both genuine factory owners manual and race prep manual and parts list book and dealer brochure. 

New Renthal Gold c&s, plus tons of other new nos nla little bits and bobs, I could go on and on but I will stop here before I bore you all to death. 

Its not road registered in the UK yet but I will register it, it should be a UK 83 Y registration. I have all the relevant paperwork at hand UK customs charges receipts, USA title etc and a UK mot test should be a formality.
