1988 Yamaha DT125R DT125 3DB1

This DT restoration has came about by chance really, I always wanted one of these in Endurance Blue and Yellow like an old Yamaha IT. I first bought a new headlamp cowl in that colour and since then I managed to collect a full set of new plastics just buying the individual pieces whenever I came across them, I even got a brand new tank and genuine seat cover and genuine decals etc all for the Endurance Blue bike. I was then offered by complete chance an immaculate time warp condition Black and Red 1988 DT125R imported in from Switzerland with only 3000 or so klms on the clock, it was still restricted in the exhaust but also had the rare 3 wire YPVS servo fitted as standard. Shame as it was but it was then stripped for parts until a UK 88 3DB1 model the first model of DT125R sold in the UK could be found to donate its frame and crankcases for the rebuild.

The bikes is now finished as of June 2012  as you can see its turned out really nice, ive managed to do 20 or so miles on it and its lovely im very happy with it. It looks and feels factory fresh like it was new from the Yamaha dealer yesterday as you will see bellow. It even has one original key for the ignition fuel cap and helmet lock and the original headstock steering lock key plus the spares.

In the end I only used the frame and rear shock from the UK bike, the frame was sand blasted and refinished in White. I have fitted the engine direct from the Swiss bike as its just to good to take apart and rebuild on the UK crankcases there is just no point with such a low mileage engine its only barely ran in from new, however I have informed DVLA of the new engine number on the V5 logbook. I have kept the crankcases from the original engine so that they can be used in the future if need be. I have also managed to get the correct 88 3DB1 owners manual and the 88 3DB1 dealer brochure for it plus the 88 model Atlas spec card with the same colour bike on it.

This is the UK 88 model bike that I found on Ebay for the frame and V5, not many in this state will end up back on the road without the helping hand this one got.

I have fitted a brand new complete Giannelli exhaust system and set the YPVS up correctly so its now derestricted and revs freely right through to the redline with no hesitation. I have kept the original restricted exhaust system so it can easily be returned to original. Whoever gets this will be one very happy bunny as its got to go to make room for the next project.
